Back to School in Kenya

With Coronavirus restrictions gradually lifting, children in Kenya are starting to return to school after the long break following their closure in March. The initial return is for children in Grade 4 (aged 10/11), Class 8 (13/14) and Form 4 (secondary school: 17/18) - each of which is a year group next in line for school exams.

In accordance with new regulations, the school at Joy Children's Home has just reopened its doors. Children's temperatures are taken and logged on arrival at school, face masks are worn and social distancing is in place in classrooms. As well as two main handwashing stations at the school gates, smaller sanitizer stations have also been set-up outside each classroom.

At the end of last month, we were able to send some additional funds to Joy Children's Home so they could replace the two main handwashing facilities with more hygienic pedal-operated devices as well as providing additional PPE for the school nurse and cooks.

This been possible due to your generosity in supporting our Coronavirus appeals this year, so thank you for your ongoing support. Further adjustments at Joy and other supported schools will inevitably be needed as more year groups return to school so if you would like to support our partners in their efforts to make schools Covid-safe, you can make a donation here. Thank you!
